The Special Olympics would not be an organization today if it was not for the thousands and thousands of people who take the time to volunteer. Not only are the Special Olympics a great organization for the kids with disabilities but it is a great and rewarding volunteering experience for individuals.

You might think that the only way that you can get involved with the Special Olympics is to a couch but that is not true. There are thousands of people who work behind the scenes to make the games and programs what they are today. There are events coordinators and other projects that you can get involved in even if you have no sports ability. However, if you do have some experience either training or play sports your participation in volunteering would be greatly appreciated.

One of the great things about volunteering with the Special Olympics is that is that there are volunteer opportunities no matter where to live. Whether you live in a small town or a big city, there is a way that you can get involved and volunteer your time or your skills.

Many people think that in order to volunteer you will need a large amount of free time, but that is not the case. Whether you have a great deal of free time and want to dedicate a lot of time to the cause or you have a busy schedule and only have a few hours a week to donate, there is something beneficial that you can do.

Using Online Casinos Safely

One of the most popular ways to enjoy the internet is with online casinos. This is a popular way to gamble while never having to leave your home. It offers a great outlet for entertainment and allows you to do so without having to travel.

While an online casino is a terrific way to have fun and maybe even earn some extra cash, it is important that you remember some basics about how to be safe doing just that. You can certainly find a large number of casinos online to choose from, but make sure that you can find an address and contact information for that casino before you begin playing.

Safety in Online Casinos

You want to make sure they are legitimate and can offer you a great place to play and enjoy yourself safely. Avoiding identity theft is important and making sure you are not giving out your private information is vital. Verifying the legitimacy of the company you are going to play with is important in keeping your personal information safe.

You can search online to find out about the various online casinos and how they play. You will likely be able to locate some reviews of the sites and this could help you to decide if they are safe for you or not. It is also important that you take the time to read the information on the site regarding your personal information and how it will be used before you sign up for the online casino. Do not take a chance with your personal information just for the sake of having a little fun.

Best Training Exercises

Everyone should exercise because it is good for the body and the mind. Sometimes people exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Others start an exercise routine to train for sports play or an upcoming marathon.

One option is to hire personal trainers to help reach fitness goals. These individuals know how to create a program specifically help their client to get the results they seek. Still there are five exercises that can be done without leaving the home and without paying a personal trainer. These exercises include:

*The Plank

Doing The Plank works the abdominal muscles within. It is a movement from Pilates as well as Yoga that also works the legs, back, abdominals and arms.

*Squats

This exercise helps hamstrings and calves as well as others in that area and it happens by working all of these together.

*Lat Pull down

Back muscles are worked with this exercise to help create strength.

*Push Ups

This exercise works the chest, triceps, abdominals and back and is a compound movement that also works the shoulders.

*Lunges

When doing lunges all the leg muscles are worked. These include the hamstrings, calves and quads.

Doing these exercises won’t take a lot of time. Some have decided to do the exercises everyday because of the amount of time they take. They are exercising and getting benefits because they can fit it into their daily routine. These exercises will be effective if done at least a few times a week. It is best to do each exercise to complete comfortable reps round 10 each. It is up to the exerciser, but it should increase as they feel comfortable. Just remember before doing any exercises warm up such as doing some jumping jacks or running in place to get the heart pump. Then do some cool down exercise such as stretching the muscles.

The Olympic Games conducted over the decades is known to be historical. The Olympics is known for all the different games that are played. The Olympics are even known for the Gold, Silver and Bronze letters that are presented. But many don’t remember the Olympic Mascots.

Sure the Olympic mascots can be considered commercial yet they are also interesting and children enjoy them. It could help more children become involved with the Olympics and it could lead to being their goal to be an Olympic athlete. Well, the first Olympic mascot is officially listed as from the Munich Games. The mascot was Waldi, which was a dachshund that had a variety of forms with color stripes. It is interesting to find that some Olympic Games have had five mascots. The first real mascot was Schuss form the 1968 Grenoble games. It was a man skiing, but wasn’t officially a mascot.

Olympic mascots have become a part of the games and another thing for those interested to collect. They have become symbols of each specific Olympic Game. Nevertheless, many don’t remember the mascots of course unless they are collectors or really Olympic fans.

Kentucky Lands 2011 National Horse Show

Largely as a result of a new $40 million indoor complex built for the 2010 World Equestrian Games (WEG), Kentucky’s horse park will be host to the prestigious National Horse Show in November 2011.

This is a positive development for supporters and investors who risked millions to develop new venues and upgrades at the Kentucky Horse Park. Like other major sporting events, cities compete for the opportunity to host equestrian competitions and shows. Visionaries pushed for Lexington to win the WEG bid, with the hope that other events would be scheduled at the park in years to come. Supporters want to ensure that Kentucky remains a world leader in sport horse breeding, events and shows.

The National Horse Show, America’s oldest indoor horse event, was founded in 1883 at the original Madison Square Garden in New York City. The show moved in 2003 to become part of the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament, although it was an uneasy alliance, according to reports.

Kentucky hopes the National Horse Show will make a permanent home at the Kentucky Horse Park. Organizers have confidence that with the success of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games they have the existing infrastructure, leadership, organization and resources to host an outstanding National Horse Show. The show includes not only the main event, but also exhibitions, entertainment, shopping and pageantry.

Organizers anticipate a win/win situation, with the event providing a major boost to the local economy, international attention and utilizing the new facility while the National Horse Show will get its own identity back and not have to share it with another event, regaining it’s glamorous standing in the world of equestrian events.

The competition involves horses and riders maneuvering at high speeds over a twisting, turning obstacle course with jumps of varying heights. Teams with the fastest times and fewest mistakes compete in a final jump-off round. The horse and rider with the fastest time and fewest faults wins.

Lights, Cameras, Microphones and Notepads: Are You Ready to Meet the Press?

The sports world attracts lots of media coverage, and journalists are continually hungry for new stories and commentary.

What would you do if a reporter approached and started asking you questions? Here are some tips for handling such an encounter.

• If it’s not part of your job and you haven’t been trained, it’s best to simply lead the reporter to a designated spokesperson.

• If talking to reporters is part of your job, you need advanced preparation. Get to know the local press. Work with your supervisor and upper management to develop key messages about your organization. Practice key messages to use in interviews. These might include the organization’s history, mission and goals, as well as current and future activities. Keep up with recent events and sensitive topics so you’ll be prepared.

• Videotape yourself giving an interview or practice in front of a mirror to improve. Avoid fidgeting and darting your eyes. Learn to deliver sound bytes slower than you would during a normal conversation. Avoid jargon. Pronounce words clearly. When appropriate, look friendly and smile.

• Before an interview, know your agenda. Clearly communicate statements that support that agenda. Draw attention to a key point by saying such things as, “The main point is,” or “We want to make clear that. . .”

• Take control of an interview if the reporter is asking questions you’re not prepared to answer. Be positive as much as possible and bridge your comments back to a key statement. If you can’t answer a question, tell the reporter you’re not able to discuss the issue at this time or it is company policy not to discuss that topic. You also may say you don’t want to speculate without knowing all the facts.

• Don’t make the mistake of thinking a camera isn’t taping or a microphone isn’t turned on. Unguarded words have tripped up athletes, coaches and presidents alike who think they aren’t being recorded.

Getting Back in the Game: One Couple’s Comeback Story

A friend named Marie recently shared a funny story. She and her husband Jim used to be avid racket ball players when they were dating in college. They used to go to the university’s athletic center several times a week and slam that little blue ball around for hours. Both were athletic and competitive, so they had some fierce games, including running into the walls and each other in pursuit of that rubber sphere.

That was 20 years and two kids ago. With the children nearly grown and some extra time on their hands, Marie and Jim decided to dust off their rackets and start playing again. “It will be great fun. Just like old times,” they said to each other. Not exactly.

When they got to the gym, people looked at their rackets with disbelief. “Those are ancient,” they were told. “I didn’t know those existed any more.” As far as Marie and Jim knew, the rackets were perfectly good – after all they had been top of the line back in college.

Next, they were embarrassed to see that the courts were entirely glassed in, so everyone around could watch the games.

For some strange reason, the ball seemed to move faster and bounce more frequently than they remembered. And the ball didn’t just bounce off the front wall, it zig zagged on the side and back walls, and sometimes the ceiling. Also, the court seemed smaller, allowing less time to react, and their legs didn’t seem to pivot and jump as well as they used to. Tiredness set in on their swinging arms. After 40 minutes, both were ready to throw in the towel.

The next day, they woke to leaden limbs and throbbing muscles. “Gosh, I don’t remember being this sore from playing racket ball when we were in college,” Marie said. “Me either,” Jim agreed.

Being good sports, they decided to keep trying until they got their old prowess back.

Make sure you begin each workout with simple stretches like rolling your neck in large circles and stretching your hamstrings, quadriceps, arms, and sides to prevent muscle pulls.
